What to put on a work order
A work order tells your team and your customer exactly what work is being done, where, and for how much. Include a work order number, your business details and ABN, the customer's details, the site address and a scheduled date, each part and labour item with its quantity and price, GST if it applies, and space for the customer to sign off once the job is complete.

Do I need a written work order?
Nothing in tax law requires one, but a written work order protects both sides: it records what was asked for, what was actually done, the parts and labour charged, and gives the customer somewhere to sign off that the job is complete.
What is the difference between a work order and an invoice?
A work order describes the job to be done (or that has been done) and gives the customer a place to sign off on-site. An invoice is the request for payment sent afterwards. Use the button beside the PDF to turn a finished work order straight into an invoice.
Do I need to charge GST on a work order?
A work order is a job record, not a tax invoice, so there is no rule requiring GST to be shown on it. This tool shows it anyway, at the rate you choose, so the customer can see the expected total before you invoice them.
