What a commercial invoice needs
A commercial invoice is the document customs uses to work out duty and check what is being shipped: the shipper and consignee, what is in the shipment and its value, where it comes from and where it is going, and on what terms. Is this customs advice?
No. Papertern gives general information only, cross-checked against official sources where they exist. Your shipment's classification, valuation and paperwork are your responsibility: check with your carrier or a customs broker before you ship.
Do I need an HS code for every country?
The United States and the United Kingdom publish an official tariff lookup, linked above once you choose that preset. Canada, Australia and New Zealand are not linked here because an official lookup was not confirmed for this build; search your destination country's customs authority for the current classification.
What is the difference between the commercial invoice and the packing list?
The commercial invoice states what was sold and its value, for customs and payment. The packing list, made from the same line items with the "Make packing list" button, shows what is in each shipment (quantities, units and weight) without prices, for the carrier and the person unpacking it.
