Most handyman jobs are small enough that a written estimate feels like overkill, right up until a client disputes the price of a callout they thought was included in the quote. A short, clear estimate settles that before it becomes an argument.

Why even a small job is worth a written estimate

A phone quote is easy to remember differently a week later. A written estimate that lists the callout, the materials, and the labour, even for an hour's work, gives both sides the same starting point, and it takes less time to write than it does to argue about afterwards.

A starter list, not a script

Papertern's handyman preset comes with a short starter list, call-out and assessment, materials as listed, labour by the hour, and disposal of old materials, that you add to the estimate with one click and then edit to match the actual job. It is a starting point, never a fixed price list.

Materials and labour, split apart

Splitting materials from labour on each line means a client who queries the bill can see exactly which part of it moved: the price of a part you had to source, or the extra half hour it took once the wall turned out to hide a second layer of plaster.

Keeping a deposit optional

Not every handyman job needs money up front, so the deposit and progress payment fields on the estimate stay off unless you turn them on. For a bigger job, a small deposit against materials is common practice and the maker works the amount out for you, as a percentage or a flat figure.

Turning the estimate into an invoice

Once the client says yes, click through to the invoice tab: the customer, your business and every item carry over exactly as estimated, so there is nothing to retype.

Estimate makers by country

Each country edition uses the same tax name and business ID field as that country's invoice maker, with this preset selected.
